There are electric car charging spots at my office. I don’t usually drive past them because they’re near the main entrance to the garage, and I usually go in and out a si de entrance a couple levels down. But today I went out the main entrance on a lunchtime excursion to drop an Amazon return at the UPS store.

I’ve been occasionally tempted to get some kind of plug-in car so I could charge it at work, but I noticed something when pixel-peeping this picture:

So I guess that means that maybe if I had a plug-in car, I’d have to make a daily trip back down to the garage to move my electric car to a regular space. Could be a good excuse to go out to lunch a lot.

I would definitely take the BMW i8, despite knowing that the Model S is much faster, it is also MUCH heavier, and less versatile without the fuel supplemental option.

I want the i8 more than I figured I would, except for the fact that BMW made it so difficult to even contemplate self-service of anything... which wouldn’t be an issue if BMWs were known to be as reliable as a stone building block, and what maintenance or possible repair parts would be a manageable cost to afford.

Nothing about BMW suggests that sort of reliability or affordability, though ... which means the i8 will live up to the 8 in it’s name, and follow the 840/850 into future history as a car with low resale values that suggest attainability as bait to mere working stiffs as a used car , but turn to the switch of stratospheric running costs or repair/restoration expenses.

I think Honda/Acura NSX Hybrid may end up that way, too.

N ice selection there. We have several of those in our building too, though they don’t seem to be used very often even though we have quite a few folks with Teslas . I think it must be due to the time limit...

I can never decide if I like the i8. My neighbor has one. I like the overall shape, but not the two tone look. I like that it’s “sporty” but not that it’s electric etc. I do like how they didn’t go “super future” on the interior.

I like the looks of the i8. Swoopy. I even dig the paint jobs.

I doubt anyone actually follows that rule. Shit, most people don’t even bother charging; they think because they have a PHEV or BEV they’re entitled to park there. Or you have people who have managed to learn how to breathe with their head up their ass, so they park their with their regular ICE car.

Ask me how I know.

Full electric. So that means I loathe Volts and other plug in hybrids hogging the public chargers. Those bastards.

BMW is extremely limited in it’s colors, but thankfully, the world of vinyl wrapping can solve that with spectacular results on this design, with the sculpted and flow-through bodywork panels, and concept car looks.

I really like the new Roadster, however, it is begging for an interesting color contrast between the main body-color and the buttress color (the M-shaped pieces behind the roof panel.

I also really like the pro wraps motorsport themed car, that tries to echo the concept’s transparent doors, by blacking them out. The air tunnel between the rear fender and the buttress, that exits through the tail light area, should be blacked out...
